EMBASSY GRAPHICS AND MIDAS PRINTING JOIN FORCES

date published: 2003-01-30 Embassy Graphics has formalized a strategic alliance with Asian-based Midas Printing (Book Division). The alliance is aimed at providing unique benefits to North American customers requiring overseas book printing.
As part of the agreement, Embassy Graphics has become an exclusive sales and service agent for Midas Printing throughout the United States and Canada. In addition, Embassy Graphics will perform all the digital prepress services in North America, transmitting approved computer-to-plate files and digital press proofs to Midas printing plants in Asia
According to Embassy Graphics’ President and COO Bryan Payne Jr, it was the two companies’ similar business philosophies and commitment to quality and customer service that brought them together. They have spent the past six months establishing a seamless operational and digital workflow infrastructure, which they have utilized to successfully complete jobs for Chronicle Books, Weldon Owen, and Eaglemont.
“This is a unique relationship in that we are a combined force offering seamless communication and production,” explains Payne. “We are not a broker, or simply brokering for Midas Printing. We are, in fact, an extension of Midas Printing. This is an exclusive agreement in that Embassy Graphics does not represent any other Asian book printers, and Midas Printing uses no other North American based sales offices.”
Embassy Graphics will perform all digital prepress services in one of their two North American Digital Smart Factories. Unlike other Asian and overseas-based book printers, both facilities are colour calibrated to the printing facilities in Asia.
“This gives us a competitive advantage by making publishers’ lives easier,” says Edward Chan, Managing Director of Midas Printing (ASIA) Ltd. “Specifically, it allows us to reduce the need or time required for client press approvals. It will also improve our customer service and communications, as time zone problems are virtually eliminated,”
